Trooper
Trooper is a Saddlebred gelding that stands about 18 hands tall. He has had several careers in his short lifetime as a Saddlebred show horse and a Department of Public Safety patrol horse. Neither of these roles suited Trooper’s sensitive nature. He derives a lot of confidence from his herd mates and human partners and loves the attention he gets from ranch visitors.

Andi
Andi, a handsome Trakehner, is the ranch’s oldest resident in his late twenties. His herd of geldings respects his position as the wise, older leader. Before retiring at the ranch, he had a career in showing on the hunter jumper circuit. He is a picture of stoic resilience, still maintaining his composure after surviving both EPM and ESV. He has earned his comfortable retirement; staying busy keeping “the boys” in line.

AL
AP the MVP, affectionately called AL, is an off-the-track thoroughbred who came to us after an injury prevented him from pursuing an eventing career. With his friendly and gentle personality, he is a fan favorite here at the ranch. AL works very well with people of varying abilities, ranging from beginners to experienced horsemen. Also, he never passes up the opportunity to pose for a photo or enjoy a popsicle!

Sahara
Sahara is a one-of-a-kind horse. Prior to coming to the ranch, she had a rocky past that took its toll on her, both mentally and physically. With time, love, and patience, she’s learned to trust people. Along her journey, she has learned to work exceptionally well by responding to voice commands and body language. In each level of the horsemanship program, she helps participants fine-tune their horsemanship skills. She has taught many people the art of listening and the power of subtlety, with many more students yet to come.

Star
Star is a registered AQHA mare — Ms. Royal Starlite was a prized brood mare for many years because of her top-notch cutting horse pedigree. After a herd dispersal sale, Star was rescued from a slaughter lot with her weanling filly (Renata). Star is an independent and confident horse that knows what she wants and how to get it. She’s a charmer.

Lily
Lily was donated to the ranch as a seasoned riding horse for our program participants. While she is now retired from riding, she still participates in our workshops. Her activities vary from teaching folks how to lead or patiently standing for grooming and bathing. Additionally, she is skilled at maneuvering alongside a partner that is in a wheelchair or power chair. She will live out her life as a valued member of our team.

Maximus
This little miniature horse was a lost and feral youngster that was picked up by the Travis County Sheriff’s Department a few years back. Don’t let his small stature fool you! He comes with a great BIG personality. He is a fearless adventurer that loves people and trying new things. Max just informed us that he plans to be running the Public Relations Dept at the ranch very soon.

Gwen
Gwen was one of the original horses we rescued shortly after the Bastrop fires in 2011. While she spent the last 13 years with her adopter, Gwen returned to us due to unforeseen circumstances in the summer of 2024. Having spent the past few years out to pasture, her journey back to the working life has provided a fun and unique learning experience to the veterans in our horsemanship program. She is now part of the group that hauls to visit patients at Rock Springs, a behavioral health hospital.

Bigs
Bigs was donated to the ranch as part of an estate sale in September of 2024. His size as a Percheron makes him a great companion for his veteran buddies who are excited to ride and spend time with him. When he arrived, Bigs was extremely shy and untrusting of strangers. Participants have made it their mission to spend time with him and make him feel safe while working. We are thrilled to have Bigs as a part of our team and look forward to watching him grow alongside our participants.

Shiloh
Shiloh is an American Paint Horse that was donated to the ranch for our veterans’ horsemanship program. She is an intuitive and observant mare that has found her calling by introducing beginners to the art of riding. She acts as a steady partner with clear communication skills that are the hallmark of a kind and dependable teacher. Without a doubt, she is an integral part of the program.

Lady
Lady is a 12 year old off-the-track Thoroughbred who was rescued from a kill pen in Texas in early 2019. She was a broodmare for many years, before her previous owners lost track of her until she resurfaced. She’s now spending her days out at the ranch, recovering beautifully, and really learning to love “ranch life”.

Nicholas
Nick is a miniature horse that is a model senior citizen. During our veteran family workshops, he makes an appearance to give the kids a safe and enjoyable experience. Additionally, he plays an important role in the veteran horsemanship program by teaching everyone the art of ground driving. He carefully watches for his volunteer friends throughout the week, excited for a carrot snack. Nicholas is a little guy with a huge impact!
